The domain of religious/spiritual power and the power of ideas focuses on religious and spiritual leaders from indigenous, syncretic, and world religious traditions/movements, along with intellectuals and academic elites. We look at how, both nationally and regionally, religious leaders, academic thinkers, and related institutional networks have influenced Africans’ self-understandings and aspirations for the future, and their impact on the construction of public institutions.
