The domain of ritual power focuses on royalty, nobles, and “traditional” rulers viewed from both a contemporary and a historical perspective. In this domain, we seek to understand the role of ritual, status, and conceptions of tradition in imbuing particular individuals and institutions with power. Inquiry in the ritual domain seeks to problematize this area of elite influence with gender at its centre.
