Protests and crackdowns continue in Mozambique after disputed elections on October 9th saw the reelection of the ruling party, Frelimo. EU observers and the country’s own constitutional court have warned of irregularities in the vote count, and opposition leader Venancio Mondlane has called for protests to continue. At least 30 people have been killed by Mozambique security forces.
Duma Boko was inaugurated president of Botswana, marking the first time that the Botswana Democratic Party has lost an election in the 58 years since independence. Outgoing president Mokgweetsi Masisi conceded in a phone call to his opponent.
