Following its annual tradition, The Continent has released its 2024 list of Africans of the Year celebrating the creativity and contributions of top African musicians, artists, thinkers, activists, innovators, and athletes. Read these inspiring profiles here. The Continent is a free weekly magazine published by All Protocol Observed, a registered non-profit based in South Africa, and is released primarily via WhatsApp. You can subscribe to it on their website.

The Urban Limitrophe podcast released its interview with our own Dafe Oputu, PhD Candidate in the University of Toronto's Department of Political Science. The episode, titled “How civic action shapes cities and what to avoid when building megacities from scratch” looks at the nexus of civic action and urban development in major urban centres in Ghana, Benin, and Nigeria.

  • South African dancer and choreographer Dada Masilo, known for fusing African dance styles and classical ballet, has died. The New York Times profiles her career cut short.
  • The Reporter interviews Thomas Tieku, professor of politics and international relations at King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario and a member of the Elite Africa Project faculty team, to discuss the inner workings of the African Union Commission ahead of its February election of a new chairperson.
  • Dr. Angela Tabiri, Ghana’s “Maths Queen” and a mentor for girls in math and science, is the first African to win the Big Internet Math Off Competition.
