Namibians voted in extended parliamentary and presidential elections on Wednesday. The ruling South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) could lose the presidency for the first time since independence in 1990. Polls were kept open longer than planned after logistical difficulties prevented many from voting.

The government of Chad has ended the country’s defence cooperation agreement with France. This development comes years after Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger also pulled away from security cooperation with the former colonial power.
