The BBC has put out a primer on the issues and personalities shaping DRC’s presidential election, scheduled for 20 December. During a campaign event in South Kivu, DRC President Félix Tshisekedi accused his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame of behaving “like Adolf Hitler” and harbouring expansionist aims.
A Senegalese court has demanded that opposition leader Ousmane Sonkobe be reinstated on the ballot in February’s elections. Sonko was barred by the government because of a conviction in June related to an alleged sexual assault, a conviction he and his supporters claim was politically motivated. The government has stated that they will appeal the court decision.
