After a year of speculation and widespread protests, President Macky Sall of Senegal has confirmed that he will not seek a third term in the 2024 presidential election. The president announced that he would step down before the next election but continued to argue that the constitutional term limit, passed during his first term, did not prevent him from running.
Central African Republic is scheduled to hold a referendum on 30 July on the question of abolishing presidential term limits. President Faustin-Archange Touadera has been pushing to run for reelection in 2025, and has fired the head of the Constitutional Court. The government has invited troops from the Wagner Group to provide security during the polls.

- Nigerian-American author Nnedi Okorofor has announced a seven-figure deal with Harper Collins imprint William Morrow. The novel, Okorofor’s 21st, is titled THE AFRICAN FUTURIST and will be published in 2025.
