Ugandan MPs have officially passed the strictest anti-LGBTQ legislation in Africa. The new law makes it a criminal offence to identify as a homosexual or transgender person and cracks down on charities and media organisations that promote gay rights. The bill’s provisions will come into force unless vetoed by President Museveni. African Arguments provides important context about the domestic and international actors on either side of the bill.
