Following Bola Tinubu’s contested victory and challenges from opposition parties over the electoral commission’s conduct, Nigeria’s Supreme Court is set to weigh in on the results of the 2023 election. The court has never rejected a presidential winner declared by INEC, but The Tribune wonders if the judges overseeing the case could make history.

Nigeria’s legislature has a "women problem." In the aftermath of the 2023 elections, women will take only 15 seats in the senate and house of representatives - less than four percent. Negative stereotypes about women in leadership, and a hostile primary election process within political parties continue to be barriers to women in politics.

  • President Kais Saied of Tunisia has come under fire after ordering arbitrary arrests of Black African migrants. The African Union has postponed a planned conference in the country over the statements, and several African countries have begun evacuating citizens.
  • South Africa’s president has appointed Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, a former Pretoria mayor, as Minister of Electricity. The appointment comes as rationing of electricity has become all too common.
