Felix Tshisekedi, President of the DRC, is on his first state visit to China. Tshisekedi is set to discuss, among other topics, the renegotiation of mining contracts with Chinese companies.

Buckingham Palace refuses to return the remains of Ethiopian Prince Alemayehu, claiming that exhuming his burial site would disrupt other bodies at St. George’s Chapel. Alemayehu was abducted after the British Expedition to Ethiopia in 1861 and died of illness at age 13. The Ethiopian government has been demanding his return since 2007.

  • Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has been released from prison after a charge of assaulting a police officer. Kuti’s arrest, after a video surfaced of him beating a police officer, was protested by fans. The courts denied an application to deny his bail.
  • Ghanaian Army Captain Cecilia Erzuah received the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award. Erzuah most recently served in a UN mission in Abyei between South Sudan and Sudan.
  • Harvard Business School’s Creating Emerging Markets project interviews Mostafa Terrab, CEO of phosphate mining company the OCP Group.
