The Nigerian Labour Congress is in a face-off with Air Peace CEO Allen Onyema after the NLC’s May Day blockade of the Imo airport. Onyema argues that NLC has cost Nigeria hundreds of millions in revenue, while the NLC accuses him of denying his workers the right to unionize.

African leaders gathered in Nairobi for the Mo Ibrahim Foundation’s Governance Weekend to discuss cooperation and Africa’s position in global affairs.

• Asia Abdel-Majid, a veteran actress in Sudan, was one of the civilians killed in the crossfire between warring branches of the country’s armed forces. Abdel-Majid was Sudan’s first professional stage actress and a former teacher.
• South Africa’s Reserve Bank Governor has unveiled the redesigned rand. The new notes are designed to prevent counterfeiting while being more accessible to the visually impaired.
• As Senegal’s 2024 elections draw near, the possibility of a third-term bid from President Macky Sall continues to be an issue.
