As the Nigerian General Elections draw nearer, business and data firm Stears has put out a first-of-its-kind poll to predict the country’s next president. Unlike previous polling, Stears accounts for non-disclosing respondents and voter turnout. Under a more typical low-turnout scenario, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress is the expected winner, but higher turnout gives a comfortable lead to the Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Amid Pope Francis’ publicized visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, much attention has centred on the role of the Catholic Church in Africa, and the role of African religious leadership in the future of the church.
